The Build
‘I came across Bettina Marksteiner’s work by chance, but am very glad I did. She is not only a brilliant architect and an inspired designer, she’s also a delight to work with. She is always efficient, responsive, and straightforward’
Our client Philip and Katherine came to us through my friend who runs a Property agency in Tuscany.
They were looking to buy a private holiday home for themselves in Puglia and renting it out when not enjoying it themselves. The brief was to find land suitable to construct a property to sleep at least 8/10 people, with large indoor living spaces, serviced outside living and a secure swimming pool for children.
We toured the area of sites we have availble until Contrada Grieco was chosen as the place to develop. We dealt with the various legal requirements, obtaining a codice fiscale (insurance number), the signing of the compromesso (contract) and full legal title being passed over, along with the opening an Italian bank account.
We produced plans, discussed our design ideas, dealt with the various planning and building controls we were to expect during the build of the property and ensured regular contact with Philip and katherine as we developed their new Italian home.
The result was to create a beautiful 4 bedroom home, with an optional 5th double bed bed on the soppaclo (a mezzanine specific to Trulli where traditionally families used to sleep) , large kitchen and internal living space with beautiful fireplace, laundry with extra storage space, outside kitchen and living area, complete with sofa-style comfortable seating with a huge beach pool - all with suitable shade from the midday sun as and when required.
